Below are comments made by Leigh Touchton on the Ebony online "news" site.  She has graciously given me her permission to copy her comments here. I find them extremely informative, especially since Ms Touchton actually bothered to put in open records requests and pay for the entire case file. Some of the below is repetitive because she was responding to repetitive ignorance. David Cornell Bennett Jr., 22, of Cherryvale, KS, was taken into custody just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in Independence, KS.
The Kansas Attorney General's Office provided no details of his arrest. No charges have been filed yet.
Cami Umbarger, 29, and her children were found inside the residence on 25th Street between Clark and Stevens avenues. The children were identified as 9-year-old-Hollie Betts, 6-year-old Jaxon Betts and 4-year-old Averie Betts.

Sunny Hostin believes we exaggerate the Knock-out Game

Sunny Hostin believes media is making too much of the knock-out game...she's actually become a bit obsessed trying to back-up her position.  She resorts to calling it a phony panic.  I wonder if she would say that to Colton Gleason's mother.  I'll grant you they are not all "knock-out" game hits, per se, but all are equally as animalistic and senseless and should be looked at by media.  This is the short list.

An indictment released today charged Chism with murder, aggravated rape and armed robbery in connection with the savage attack, Essex County prosecutors said.

Police finally reveal what may have been the motive behind the brutal rape and murder of Colleen Ritzer. They say he left behind a note that read, "I hate you all".  It's anyone's guess who the "you all" is that Chism is referring to, but since she is white and he is black, I'm going to say he hates white people.  Of course there has not been a hate crime attached to his charges and by all appearances, there will likely not be any such charges in the future.

Today an excellent documentary short (below), by @DrControversy, was put up on youtube. This video traces George Zimmerman's journey since the night he was assaulted by Trayvon Benjamin Martin and shot the 17 year old in self-defense, killing him almost instantly.

Kendrick Johnson's Mother isn't buying what Fred Rosen is selling...

Jackie Johnson, mother of Kendrick Johnson, tweeted today that she is not buying what Ebony Magazine writer. Fred Rosen, is selling.  He accuses two white boys of killing Kendrick Johnson based on an investigation by a Detective Webster.

Kendrick Johnson's Mama ain't got time for that....unless you want to donate..

Shelly Zimmerman's "Narcissist in Me" tour - First Stop, Katie Couric

Shelly Zimmerman, for whatever reason...is on a "poor me" tour. Katie Couric is her first stop.  What I find very unsettling about this interview is how much the incident which happened only two days prior to the recording of this show, is incorporated into their dialogue.  Couric refers to the domestic violence incident between Samantha Schiebe and George Zimmerman many times to prove a point about his run-in's with the law and his (alleged), propensity for violence.

Scheibe and her mother started to seek interviews with national media outlets. Mason said she hoped by Scheibe doing the interview, she would force Zimmerman to get help - and the attention would keep Scheibe safe.

"I was not notifedi n (sic) this death until 15:45 hours. The investigative climate was very poor to worse when I arrived on the scene. The body had been noticably (sic) moved. The scene had been compromised and there was no cooperation from law enforcement at the scene.

 Rose, Touchton believe no cover up in Johnson case

Rose and Touchton say they have reason to believe that the lawyers for Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson have not been entirely truthful in their statements about information they have or have not received from law enforcement and school officials concerning the investigation of how the couple’s son came to be found dead inside a rolled wrestling mat in the old gym at Lowndes High School in January.
The majority of their suspicions arose after a July 25 conference call between Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson, their lawyer Chevene King and approximately 60 NAACP and civil rights leaders from around the state of Georgia, including Touchton who was serving as lead investigator for the Valdosta-Lowndes NAACP at the time.
Web addresses to donation sites were given during the call and people were urged to send money to the family so they could fund the legal fights, but as far as Touchton is concerned, the information they were asking for had already been released.

Touchton was reluctant to come forward and tell her story, but after a private email she sent early in October was widely disseminated around Valdosta by others, she said she felt she had no choice but to discuss the issue publicly.  Since doing so, she has received threats from unnamed individuals in the community, but remains hopeful that the family can receive peace over the death of their son.
