Hoodies are great when it's cold outside....but once you are in the bank or the store, take it down as not to appear menacing to the staff and customers. The hoodie is stereotyped for a reason and it didn't start with Trayvon Martin or Geraldo Rivera. Reality and common sense dictates a youth in a hoodie, especially a black youth in a hoodie walking into a bank or hanging out in front of homes where he doesn't belong is going to be suspect. It is what it is. What it isn't is a stereotype that is anyone's fault other than the black (and white), youths wearing hoodies to hide their faces while committing crimes. It is absurd to fault anyone for making a distinction - in fact, it's a distinction that could save your life.
Maybe someone should call this company and have them apologize to Sybrina Fulton for their depiction of a hooded armed robber in their security brochure...

By the way, I'm with Mark, I'd cross the street if I met up with this guy late at night as well. No one raised a fuss about this stereotype though.

Someone who is a follower of mine on Twitter opined that the "black-youth-hoodie-stereotype" could get black youth killed...and insinuated white people perpetuate it. I say ignoring a certain profile in certain situations could get people killed too. There are many labels and stereotypes that, if viewed out loud and negatively, could get people who walk to a different drummer killed as well. Most of the time we are correct when we stereotype (and sometimes not), it's what we do to avoid judgment that sets us apart. The following is meant to be light-hearted but still send a message.
