White man charged with hate crime in Knock-out game incident!

Federal authorities said Thursday they have arrested and charged a Texas man in connection with the “knockout game,” accusing him of a hate crime for targeting a black man for a vicious street attack.
Most knockout victims that have appeared in news reports have been white, but the Justice Department said in this instance the victim was a 79-year-old black man, and stepped in with federal charges.

Barrett was charged with a hate crime by Kenneth Magidson, the 22nd Obama-appointed United States Attorney.  Barnett apparently recorded his attack on video to see if hitting a black man in knock-out game style would gain National attention.  I guess he got his answer.  I agree completely with the charges:
According to the federal complaint, Barrett attacked the 79-year-old man "because of the man's race and color." He will next appear in court Friday afternoon for a detention hearing.
Barnett's attorney, George Parnham (defended Andrea Yates), said his client suffers from mental illness.
Parnham said he could not state whether his client carried out the attack, but, "mental health issues definitely played a part in anything that occurred." [CNN]
That or he is a racist piece of crap and deserves whatever punishment is doled out.
My problem, obviously, is the lack of equality in the prosecution of the many players of this violent game.  There have been two charged as hate crimes, both were white on black.  [CNN]
New York police previously charged suspect Marajh Amrit with a hate crime in the alleged attack of a white Jewish man as part of a "knockout" game.
"In New Jersey, Ralph Santiago, 46, a homeless man, was walking alone in Hoboken on the night of September 10 when he was suddenly struck from behind, said Hoboken Detective Anthony Caruso.
The blow knocked out Santiago, who had a pre-existing brain injury. He suffered a seizure. The victim's body struck a nearby fence, with part of the wrought iron fence piercing his body and killing him, Caruso said.
 Examining the 'knock out' game
Surveillance video in the area showed three teens running from the scene. Two weeks later, police arrested the juveniles and charged them in connection with the killing. Caruso said the attack was unprovoked."
None of the teens were charged with hate crimes.  It is rare..in fact I haven't seen any in my research, that the black youth target black individuals in their game...their targets are always white.

Colson Gleason
The individual who knocked out and killed Colson Gleason received only 10 yrs in prison.  No hate crime, no real time.  His family was deprived of his body for months, they were put through hell trying to find justice for their son, and they did it pretty much all on their own. In fact, their son's case barely made the news.
