Thug exchanges punch for a bullet caught on tape

This story is from November, 2012.  This was during the time the Zimmerman case was in full swing.   Akrem Azzam shot Alexander Calloway, 21, after Calloway punched him in the face. Calloway survived and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Before the CTV video was released showing the confrontation (see 2nd video below), the community was outraged and asking for answers:
HOUSTON — Community Activist Quanell X and family members of a young man who was shot by a Valero clerk in southeast Houston early Monday are calling for the store clerk’s arrest.
Alexander Calloway, 21, and his two cousins were trying to enter the gas station on Martin Luther King and Belarbor around 3:30 a.m., but the store was locked.
The young men got into an argument with the clerk, who unlocked his door and came outside, police said.
Someone punched the clerk in the face and he pulled out his gun and shot Calloway in the stomach, according to HPD.
Calloway’s cousins rushed him to a fire station on Cullen at Selinsky, and paramedics transported him to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

Calloway's family were outraged at the store clerk.  His Aunt basically blamed the clerk for provoking the punch in the face....seems he should have stayed in the store.
Yolanda Asberry, the victim’s aunt, said. “It’s ridiculous. Why would you come out the store? You’re supposed to be in the store. That’s why you closed the store at a certain time.”
Quannel X, the Al Sharpton of Texas warned:
“He got the gun and came outside because he was looking for a confrontation. I don’t understand why the Houston Police Department did not arrest this store clerk,” Quanell X said. “I don’t understand why the Houston Police Department does not have him locked up in jail right now.”
The activist said if the clerk is not charged, a protest will be held Tuesday.

Azzam was arrested in December, but I've not found much more about the case.  What do you think?  Self defense or?
